QOS on SVI

JOHN APONTE

Level 1

I have the following:

WS-SUP720-BASE

L3 Switching Engine III WS-F6K-PFC3A

CATOS/IOS hybrid code

Trying to apply a service-policy output QOS_POLICY on a SVI that connects across to another 6500 with a WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE/WS-F6K-PFC2 also running CATOS/IOS hybrid code. I am trying to apply the policy on a L3 interface vlan that connects both boxes across a gige pipe. I am able to apply the QOS policy on the SUP2 box with a L3 SVI interface but on the SUP3 with a L3 SVI interface when I try to apply the policy I am getting the folowing error 'MQC features are not supported for this interface'. Why does the policy stick on the SUP2 module but not on the SUP3 module.? Thanks for your support.

Some linecards do not support QOS on SVI. It's not really a sup problem but it depends on the supported features the linecards on the chassis have.

Here is a snapshot of the different line cards:

WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE

WS-F6K-MSFC2

WS-X6348-RJ-45

WS-X6324-100FX-MM

WS-X6416-GBIC

WS-X6416-GBIC

WS-X6348-RJ-45

WS-X6416-GBIC

2nd chassis:

WS-X6748-GE-TX

WS-X6748-GE-TX

WS-X6748-GE-TX

WS-X6748-GE-TX

WS-SUP720-BASE

WS-SUP720

WS-X6524-100FX-MM

WS-X6724-SFP

WS-X6724-SFP

WS-X6724-SFP

Are you applying it inbound or outbound...? I think the direction is important.

Edit.. reread and noticed your applying outbound.

Could you post the sub module section of a show mod on both 65's

Looks like you have no MSFC card this is what performs the software queues for layer 3 interfaces.

Your running PFC qos which is slightly different to full mqc, its hardware based.

The "output service-policy" command is unavailable.

There is 1 msfc in each of the 6509's:

15 5 1 Multilayer Switch Feature WS-SUP720 no ok

15 1 1 Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2 no ok

could you post "show mod 7" on the 720 6500

Sorry i thought that was the module port your supervisor was installed on...

Could you do the same command for the supervisor port.

The 15 1 1 you provided earlier indicates module 15 (ie there is no mod 15) which I think means you have a problem with your MSFC card.

yours doesnt state an MSFC

could you post the full show mod.

Could be barking up the wrong tree, though i would have thought the MSFC card would show as a daughterboard card under the sub-module section.

Have a look at this document.

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_qanda_item09186a00809a7673.shtml#qa5

Basically states that the DFC is used to provide the local QOS features and the CFC doesnt.

It agrees with lavramov initial diagnosis

;-)

Correct, CFC doesnt, I was suspecting this.

Thanks for proving it with the show modules.

I guess we can mark this post resolved.
