customizing view

Is it possible to have a view where I can add components from different modules to display in new view. I see option 'add new view' but it only allows to copy everything and not selective, and if I try to copy another module, it will overwrite the all old contents. What's the purpose of this new view, if it cannot be customized.

A new view can be customized. Just create it, and click the Add Portlet icon at the top right to add any number of portlets you want. You can also change the layout of a view.
