1841 router and DHCP option config

Unanswered Question
Sep 23rd, 2009

I have a new 1841 router that I am trying to setup DHCP on. When I enter the option command string ie> option 130 ascii "MITEL IP PHONE" , I get an error saying "% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.", where the marker is just before the word IP. I have this config on all our other routers and it works fine. The router has IOS version 12.4. Image version is "c1841-ipbase-mz.124-15.T9.bin". Any suggestions?

What IOS version? You can verify it with show version command.

I believe you are hitting bug ID CSCta85026. You can try 12.4(15)T10, it has the fix for this bug.

This is a bug that was filed under: CSCsk96976

It's the root cause of the parser error you encounter for option 130 and it's impacting only certain IOS versions.

You need to change the IOS code to be able to type this command and not get a parser error.

Fix from : 12.4(18.4)T1, 12.4(15)T10

Hi Lucien,

Mark is not getting extra quotation mark after reboot. He is having problem with the space in the ASCII string. Where CSCsk96976 is filed for "DHCP Option 66 adds more quotation marks around URL after reload".

Check the code changes of the bug.

It boils down the same root cause.

The defects were filed with an example, in that case it was option 60.

switch(dhcp-config)#option 60 ascii "Cisco AP c1240"

It is the same for ANY option and basically both defects are fixed in the same ios as the root cause is the same, there is a parser bug.

"It boils down the same root cause." I agree on this one, it is a parser error.

However, Mark's root cause is not getting extra quotation marks.

I'll see what I can do to get my hands on that image version.

Thanks for the replies.

The image version that you recommended worked great.

Again thanks for your replies.
