We are going through recovery scenarios for wireless controllers and this question came up.
Can you take a WiSM from one 6500 host and slap it another provided the VLAN and etherchanneling are already set up? Or would the WiSM itself need a partial or full reconfiguration upon re-install?
thanks!

You can't. As you pointed out, the chassis will have to recognize the card to enable the etherchannel ports. Plus, by default, when you insert the module to a slot, the chassis DISABLES the power to that slot.
The only thing I can think of is prepare a text file with slot number blanked out. When you insert the WiSM into the slot, fill in the blanks and cut-and-paste.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. So pretty much everything can be pre-config'd EXCEPT the etherchannel, then re-enable power, etc.
Will the WiSM's maintain their config info while disconnected?

WiSM config is stored in NVRAM, it will keep it while offline
