Small Branch Cable router suggestions

Unanswered Question

Hi all,

we a branch with max 25 users that needs to provide connectivity to a Cable internet service provided by VIrgin Media @ 20mbps down and 1mbps up.

No special features needed apart from the ability to cofigure it with a block of 4 IPs (/30) so that we can give the site firewall (ISA) an external IP.

I notice that cisco recommends the 860 series routers for 5 users? How literaly can this be taken?

Should I be looking at 880's / 890's instead?

Baring in mind that we only want to use it for internet onnectivity.

Your advice appreciated...

I have this problem too.

Hi, Mario,

I noticed that you stated 25 users,

I guess you might need to hub,

add my 1 cent...

Hi, Mario,

You said you may have maximum 25 users connect to the router, If some of them use wireless connection, that's fine. But if they all use RJ-45 cable connection, the port will be not enough then add a hub to the router, connect rest of the users to the hub. the users are in the same subnet.

Hope this help

Possibly, but the 85x are a bit cheaper and cisco may want to keep that for competitiveness.
