Small Branch Cable router suggestions

Hi all,

we a branch with max 25 users that needs to provide connectivity to a Cable internet service provided by VIrgin Media @ 20mbps down and 1mbps up.

No special features needed apart from the ability to cofigure it with a block of 4 IPs (/30) so that we can give the site firewall (ISA) an external IP.

I notice that cisco recommends the 860 series routers for 5 users? How literaly can this be taken?

Should I be looking at 880's / 890's instead?

Baring in mind that we only want to use it for internet onnectivity.

Your advice appreciated...

Mario

Even an 851 would work. Mainly a budget choice.

so i shouldnt worry about Cisco saying that its recommended for 5 users then?

Mario

Not worry.

Hi, Mario,

I noticed that you stated 25 users,

I guess you might need to hub,

add my 1 cent...

Hi Yang,

i dont quite understand what you mean, sorry... can you rephrase?

Mario

Hi, Mario,

You said you may have maximum 25 users connect to the router, If some of them use wireless connection, that's fine. But if they all use RJ-45 cable connection, the port will be not enough then add a hub to the router, connect rest of the users to the hub. the users are in the same subnet.

Hope this help

Yang

Cisco 520 Secure Router for Cisco Smart Business Communications System

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps9305/data_sheet_c78-484356.html

I'm suspecting the 520 will be replacing the 850 ISR.

Hope this helps.

Possibly, but the 85x are a bit cheaper and cisco may want to keep that for competitiveness.
