Hello,

What are the things I need to take care if I am building up new 6509 with two sup-720. Do I need to configure both MSFC and SP configuration identical on both Sups? I mean management (sc interfaces) configuration and all? or Standby will get all the config from the Active one? What are the provisional configurations I need on both sup720 before i turn up?

Thanks,

Devang

Here is the data sheet of the SUP720:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/product_data_sheet09186a0080159856_ps2797_Products_Data_Sheet.html

- MSFC: you have no choice, it's the MSFC3 for the SUP720

- PFC: choice between PFC 3B or 3BXL Basically the choice will be based on how many routes you want to handle (full routing or not)

- DFC: same as PFC but on the LC. You increase the overall performance of the system as the PFC is not involved for the forwarding of the traffic received by the LC.

- CFC: Fabric LC without DFC

The following FAQ should help:

Hi Devang,

You configure only the active SUP and the you will have automatic synchronization between both SUP cards. The only requirement is both SUPs must run the same image if you want to use SSO/NSF.

Laurent,

Can you give me link where Cisco has details for various MSFC/PFC/DFC/CFCs? What combination should be use? What are the thing need to take in consideration to build up new 6500/7600 with new two Sup720s?

Thanks,

Devang
