OSPF Command question

Greeting,

Is there a difference between the network command and redistribute connected in OSPF i just notice that when i use redistribute connected (to advertize all my connected networks without using the network command) i don`t have the loadbalancing feature however when i issue the network command for at least one connected network i will see the redundant path on my ospf routing table.

To summurize:

Area 0 ==R1(area 1 NSSA) ========= R2 (Area 1 NSSA loop 172.16.1.0, 192.168.1.0)

When i type in R2

router ospf 1

log-adjacency-changes

area 3 nssa

redistribute connected metric 100 subnets

network 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.255 area 3

network 10.10.12.0 0.0.0.255 area 3

!

I can only see One path to my loop in R1

however when i issue these commands:

router ospf 1

log-adjacency-changes

area 3 nssa

redistribute connected metric 100 subnets

network 172.16.1.1 0.0.0.0 area 3

network 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.255 area 3

network 10.10.12.0 0.0.0.255 area 3

!

Now in R1 i can see two redundant path to my loopback

any explanation?

Thanks

Hello Seifeddine,

there are difference between the two options and where possible I would recommend to use network area command.

Regarding your specific issue I would suggest you to post

sh ip ospf database external 172.16.1.0

sh ip route 172.16.1.0

on R1

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe

Thanks for your message, well my question is why with the network command i can get the two path for 172.16.1.0 and with the redistribute command i can`t.

Can you try to simulate this using dynamips

Thanks
