Advertise EBGP learned routes from RRClient

Gurus,

I have this setup on my network;

ClientA-EBGP-MyRRCllient-ibgp--R1--ibgp--R2

Will ClientA advertise routes be received by R2? since R1 recieves this thru ibgp but an RRClient.

Thanks.

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

yes if R1 is the RR server of MyRRClient.

R1 has to reflect advertisements taken from non client to client.

Then the client will advertise over eBGP session.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Guiseppe,

It seems i cannot see that routes coming from my ClientA. Also can i advertise this prefix coming from my ClientA to my upstream provider, provided that im also receiving this block from this upstream.

Thanks.

Hello Jeff,

>> It seems i cannot see that routes coming from my ClientA.

at what point of the network.

Are you giving local preference (>100) to clientA's routes?

is clientA sending to you routes with a prepended AS path attribute, using you as a secondary provider?

you can advertise to upstream provider only if you prefer routes coming from clientA, if not so your router is not going to advertise clientA's routes to upstream provider.

Hope to help

Hi Giuseppe,

On R2, i can see it on R1 which is my RRserver.

How can i prefer the routes coming from clientA to be able to advertise it to my upstream, since im receiving it also to that upstream provider.

Thanks.

Hello Jeff,

on MyRRclient do the following:

router bgp yourASN

neigh clientA local-preference 500

this should be enough.

the RRServer propagates only the best path for a given IP prefix so you need to make the RRServer to prefer routes coming from clientA.

local preference has AS wide scope.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
