HUM module

Hi expert team!

I'll do a local migration from LMS 2.6 to LMS 3.1 under Solaris 9.

The product is CWLMS-3.1-5K-K9 (LMS 3.1 Med to Large Ent, networks of 1500 to 5000 devices)

Standalone server.

This product have inside the HUM?

Must install HUM or is optional? Because the prerequisites change depending if install HUM or not.

And in the other hand, how much Gb disk free and swap I need for hoy much in /opt and how much in " / "and swap.

The actual is: (now running LMS 2.6)

Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on

/dev/md/dsk/d0 20G 6.2G 13G 32% /

/proc 0K 0K 0K 0% /proc

mnttab 0K 0K 0K 0% /etc/mnttab

fd 0K 0K 0K 0% /dev/fd

swap 6.0G 96K 6.0G 1% /var/run

swap 6.0G 1.9M 6.0G 1% /tmp

/dev/md/dsk/d3 34G 12G 22G 36% /opt

/dev/md/dsk/d6 9.1G 10M 9.0G 1% /export/home

But I have unassigned space to enable:

Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks

0 root wm 2752 - 6873 20.00GB (4122/0/0) 41945472

1 swap wu 0 - 824 4.00GB (825/0/0) 8395200

2 backup wm 0 - 14086 68.35GB (14087/0/0) 143349312

3 unassigned wm 6874 - 14086 35.00GB (7213/0/0) 73399488

4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0

5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0

6 home wm 850 - 2751 9.23GB (1902/0/0) 19354752

7 unassigned wm 825 - 849 124.22MB (25/0/0) 254400

Thanks!

best regards,

No, /var/adm/CSCOpx is not required to be its own file system. Many customers just have /var as a file system. Just be aware that /var/adm/CSCOpx can grow very large. I typically allocate at least 10 GB for it alone. If you put it on a shared file system, make sure there is enough combined space to accommodate LMS, and any other storage requirements.

HUM is an optional component, licensed separately from the rest of LMS. If you choose to install it, you will get a 90-day evaluation.

The actual amount of RAM, swap, and disk depend on the number of devices you are going to manage. If you are going to manage the full 5K, then you need a 4 CPU server with 8 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of swap.

Your /opt file system is fine, but /var is shared with /, and this is bad. You should use your unassigned space to create a /var/adm/CSCOpx file system of at least 10 GB. This file system will hold configs, software images, logs, and job data.

If you choose to install HUM on this server, you will only be able to manage 1500 devices in LMS and 300 in HUM. That server only requires 2 CPUs, 4 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of swap.

Hi Clarke!

First I am planning to manage 1500 devices.

Ok, I will change /var by separated.

Then when growing to 5k devices, I will migrate to a new server machine.

Thanks very much.

Hi J Clarke!

I have a dout..

It is absolutely necesary build the FS /var/adm/CSCOpx?

If the CISCO recommendation are not followed, and we continue with the installation in the present conditions.

(upgrade from CWLMS 2.6 to CWLMS 3.1)

Any inconvenience can be produced when support (TAC service request) is required?

Thanks very much!

best regards,

Jorgelina
