I am trying to connect communication between 2 buildings. In the main building, I have a Cisco aironet 1100 connected to the wired Lan. In the other building I am trying to install a Cisco 1242AG. I am in the setup interface of the 1242Ag under the section where I need to choose the role of the 1242AG. The 1242AG will need to communicate wirelessly with the 1100 AP and will be connected to a switch inside of the building. What role should i choose?

Is this a point-to-point bridge scenario? Your root bridge should be set to:

station-role root bridge

And your non-root should be set to:

station-role non-root bridge

If your 1100 is in root access point mode (station-role root), your 1242 can operate as a workgroup bridge and associate to the 1100 as a client. To do that, use:

station-role workgroup-bridge
