I have propsed an SBCS solution for my customer. The solution includes UC520-32U-8FXO-K9, VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1. The customer is planning to get one PRI for Voice and another T1 for data. Basically the T1 provider has proposed two T1s, one 16 channel PRI-T1 1.5 Mbps for voice and another T1 1.5 Mbps for data. Can we connect the PRI interface to the VWIC2 and the other T1 with a Fast Ethernet to the WAN interface port? What is the cost effective alternative to VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1? Can I use SR-520 for enhanced security?
Generally what I have experienced is the service provider will terminate the T-1s into an IAD like Adtran. In your case, both T-1s will terminate into the IAD. The service provider will configure the IAD for PRI and Internet access. Then from the IAD, there is a PRI port that will connect to the WIC card of the UC 520 and the other T-1 circuit is a Ethernet port that will be brought into an SR 520/ASA/ISR Ethernet WAN port.
I prefer to have an IAD terminate the T-1 curcuits and break out the PRI and Ethernet hand-offs to the appropriate Cisco routers. Makes it easier to deploy and configure.
The providers I work with here in Austin (Bestline, Time Warner Telecom) provide the IAD customer premise hardware from Adtran.
Hope this helps.
You cannot do voice and data on the same T1 in a UC500. Only voice is supported. You could terminate your data T1 on the SR520-T1, but you will still need the VWIC to do voice on the UC500.
