Can you weight WCCP so that if you have two devices that web packets can be sent to (Proxy servers), it will favor one over the other unless the primary fails.

Hello Lewis,

you can influence load balancing ratios but not on the router side, on the designated cache

see

WCCPv2 allows the designated cache to adjust the load on a particular cache and balance the load across the caches in a cluster.

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SXF/native/configuration/guide/wccp.html#wp1000972

So you need to configure the cache(s) for not equal load balancing.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

So what happens if the primary proxy fails. will WCCP detect this?

Hello Lewis,

>> So what happens if the primary proxy fails. will WCCP detect this?

yes all other caches and all routers will detect this event.

WCCP is spoken not only between router(s) and caches but also between caches.

I would expect a new designated cache is elected for the group.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
