Upgrading RSP route/switch processor RAM

Hi Experts,

In datasheet, RSP 720-3CXL can support 1,000,000 (IPv4); 500,000 (IPv6) routes.

Is this based on the default RAM config?

- Route processor DRAM 2G (Default)

- Switch processor DRAM 1G (Default)

when do we need to upgrade RSP720-3CXL processor DRAMs?

- from route processor DRAM 2G to 4G

- from switch processor DRAM 1G to 2G

Thanks.

You're correct. Also increasing the DRAM will not increase the number of routes supported as those numbers are based on the TCAM limits.

Actually 2G DRAM for SP is not supported today, you can only upgrade the RP DRAM.

The DRAM is used by the RP to store all the routes (RIB and FIB), the running-config and running IOS. So the needs to upgrade will depends on how your config scale including the number of total routes you are receiving.

HI Laaubert,

Thanks for quick reply.

Under Cisco Configuration Tool, there is an option to upgrade SP RAM to 2GB.

(Part number MEM-RSP720-SP2G)

(Description C7600 RSP720 SP 2G Memory)

Can I confirm that the datasheet describing RSP 720-3CXL able to support 1,000,000 (IPv4); 500,000 (IPv6) routes is based on RP RAM 2G and SP RAM 1G?

I am pre-specing on a 7606 with RSP720-3CXL thus just need a confirmation.

Hi,

The documentation is wrong. You will have the support with the default memory.
