Professional Level Certifications

Professional level exams, such as those exams found in the CCNP, CCDP, CCVP, CCIP and CCSP tracks, are also valid for 3 years from the date the exam is passed. Once you complete a Professional certification, you can renew it by passing any 642-level professional exam - of any track. You can also renew your professional exams by passing a CCIE/CCDE written exam.

For example, if you complete your CCNP, and then later pursue your CCVP, every time you pass a 642-level exam towards the CCVP, you are also renewing your CCNP for three years from that date.

Professional tracks must be completed within 3 years since exams are only valid for three years from the date passed. For example, the CCNP currently is comprised of 4 exams. If you took the first exam on January 1st of 2009, you would have three years to complete the entire track. That means, that by January 1, 2013, if you have not completed the track, that first exam you took will expire.
