Hi All,

Quick question will RIP send out an instant update if a link fails or will it wait until its scheduled update to inform other routers.

Note: This is assuming that triggered update is not configured.

Hello Andrew,

the issue with RIP is that the flash update is not propagated by neighboring routers that have to wait next update interval to inform other devices.

So the triggered update doesn't solve the issue of slow convergence of RIP that is still there also with RIPv2.

if you look for comparison at what OSPF or EIGRP can do you see a huge gap.

see for RIP

Hope to help
