Licensing DECT phones with CUCM 7.1

Hi,

I have a customer who wishes to deploy a Kirk DECT 3000 Wireless Server and ten DECT phones.

http://www.polycom.com/products/voice/wireless_solutions/dect_communications/infrastructure/dect_ws_300.html

The 300 Wireless Server will talk to CUCM using SIP.

I am assuming that I will need Third Party DLUs to license the DECT phones (traditional non-CUWL licensing model) but do not know whether the phones will be classified as Basic (3 DLU) or Advanced (6 DLU) SIP devices.

Has anyone deployed this system with CUCM and, if so, what was required for licensing?

I think you can consider this as trunking to an external PBX/phone system. You will not configure the phones individually in CUCM, the other server does everything.

No licensing is needed for that.

Hi Paolo,

Thanks for the response. I had the same thought as you until I read the document below:

http://www.polycom.com/global/documents/support/sales_marketing/products/voice/cisco-and-kirk-solutions-for-real.pdf

The second bullet point in the first column seems to imply that the DECT phones are managed within CUCM and would therefore consume DLUs.

I will try contacting Polycom to see if they can clarify the situation.

Good point, let us know.

Polycom have confirmed that each DECT phone needs 3 device license units - i.e. seen as a basic SIP device.

Impressed with the speed of their reply - if only all vendors were as efficient!
