6500 VSS (RPR mode)

Hi

I have configured the VSS on my 2 6500 switches but the standby switch is on RPR mode, has anyone everdone this before that can help with this matter?

I read a document that stated that "if the standby chassis VSL port channel has been configured for another use, the VSS comes up in RPR mode". I only configured my port channel for this VSS use.

I did reset the standby switch and now I can only see one switch, even though I have connected a console cable on the second switch but I only see one switch(active).

Hello Mpho,

refer to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/vss.html#wp1054565

A VSS operates with stateful switchover (SSO) redundancy if it meets the following requirements:

•Both supervisor engines must be running the same software version.

•VSL-related configuration in the two chassis must match.

•PFC mode must match.

•SSO and nonstop forwarding (NSF) must be configured on each chassis.

in my understanding both chassis had to be configure for SSO before joining them in the VSS.

Also they need to have same IOS image, same PFC operating mode

this can help you to understand what is happening.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

I think my problem here was the IOS's, one is running SXI and the other one is running SXI2. The one that was running SXI has been upgraded to SXI2 but now it don't want to boot, it's stuck on rommon1>
