Replacing a 3750 switch from a stack

We have two stacked WS-C3750G-48PS. One of the switch will be replaced due do some faulty POE ports. The other switch has already assumed master role. Config has been backed up. Will downgrade or upgrade the IOS on the replacement switch to match the other.

What additional steps should I take in replacing the faulty switch without causing major problems?

Do I just remove the faulty switch, install the replacement and boot? Will the replacement switch assume member role and take existing config? Or will I need to restore the config?

Any information is appreciated.

Hello Richard,

consider the following chapter from config guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_46_se/configuration/guide/swstack.html

or

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_46_se/configuration/guide/swstack.html

I would suggest to configure priority for current master.

you can also provision the new switch, but being made of only two switches this can be skipped.

IOS image must match.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Will let you know how it goes.
