what command do we use in order to get information on how long an interface has been up on 6500 switch
please help

Not an easy way to do that on a 6500 or any other IOS box , you would have to look at the interfaces and see when the last input was using the "show int" command. The 4500's are the only model that have a good command to look at that info and that is "show int link" . Have no idea why they can't port that command to all IOS boxes .

On a 4000/4500 chassis or the 4900 series switches, the command is "sh interface link".
