Hey all,
I'm a CCNA without any real world experience. I'm trying to find a WIC for a 2801 that has at least one gigabit interface (fibre). I've been digging around for half an hour online, and most of what I find is HWICs, which it looks like the 2801 doesn't support. What do I need?
Thanks in advance. ;)

That one specifically says "except the 2801". :(

I did read your post too fast.
There is no HWIC for the fiber for 2801.
You need to upgrade the router for that feature.

Hi Anthony,
The links which Lucien has sent states that this GE HWIC is supported on a 2801 router with IOS 12.4(15)T9, IP Base, Table 2.
As far as HWIC slot on 2801 is concerned you get -
2 slots which support HWIC, WIC, VIC, or VWIC
1 slot which supports WIC, VIC, or VWIC 1 slot which supports VIC or VWIC
So to me it looks like HWIC-1GE-SFP is supporte on 2801 router.

Correct, the HWIC-1GE-SFP is supported with 12.4(15)T9 or newer. But as Guiseppe writes, you shall not expect to have a full 1GE throughput.

Hello Anthony,
be aware that a GE port on a C2801 would be just nominal : router performance are far lower then a GE port.
It could just solve an interconnection issue.
Have you got a free FE port on the device?
Hope to help
