Hi,
does anybody know what is the maximum number of VRFs supported on Nexus 7000?
I found 200 but I'd like to know if 200 is for the entire switch or for every Virtual Device Context.
Many thanks
Stefano

Hello Stefano,
I would say at least 1024 VRFs as a Cisco 6500
there are license requirements as explained here.
It may be equal to VDC contexts number
see
Hope to help

Hi Giuseppe,
in the document you posted is written 'VRFs require no license' and there isn't any information about the number of VRFs supported.
I found this in release notes of NX-OS 4.1:
'The Cisco NX-OS software supports a maximum of 200 Virtual Routing and Forwarding instances (VRFs). '
Here is the link:
I'd like to know if 200 is really the total number of vrfs supported
Regards
Stefano

Hello Stefano,
I'm sorry for the misleading answer.
you are right a VDC can have multiple VRFs.
However, if only up to 3 VDCs are possible even 200 VRFs per VDC are less then 1024 VRFs on a C6500.
You can create a maximum of three VDCs on a physical device.
the information you are looking for is not clearly stated anywhere.
this low number makes me think this can be the reason.
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Documentation says different things for different versions, and it seems to be even inconsistent as you can see for Release 5.
You can check Configuration Limist for Release 5 here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/5_x/nx-os/unicast/configuration/guide/l3_limits.html
Regarding VRFs, this document shows "1000 per system", "250 maximum on each VDC (with 4 VDCs)", and "994 on one VDC (with 4 VDCs)". The last two don´t make any sense to me.
If you look into the VDC Configuration Guide for Release 4, which can be found here: http://cisco.biz/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/4_0/nx-os/virtual_device_context/configuration/guide/vdc_templates.html#wp1117427, you will find that the minimum and maximum values for VRFs in the default resource template for Cisco NX-OS Release 4 are 16 and 8192 respectively. Resource templates are applied on a per VDC basis, but does not necessarily mean that we still can have those 8192 a couple of times as we create VDCs.
