Hi Friends,

I am trying to configure Custom Queuing in the Router. The requirement is as below:

HTTP traffic will share 50%

SMTP traffic will share 20%

NNTP traffic will share 10%

other traffic will share 20%

I know that custom queuing will be configured using Byte count. But the requirement is given in percentage format.

What is the math behind it to convert to Byte count as I donot know the Packet size.

Will you please take your valuable time to clear this concept

Thanks

Hi Sairam.

There is two ways of doing it:

1) The quick and easy way.

Apply the byte count with the same ratio as your percentages. EG: HTTP=500bytes SMTP=200bytes NNTP=100bytes OTHER=200bytes. However it is not a very good way of distributing the traffic but is very easy to understand and configure.

2) The correct and complex way.

Cisco have provided a formula for creating this. It is here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/qos/configuration/guide/congstion_mgmt_oview_ps6350_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html#wp1001366

Take your time and go through the steps one by one, it is a little complex but you will get the good result in the end.

BTW, if your platform supports it, you might want to consider using CBWFQ instead of CQ.
