I'm curious if "inside" and "outside" have any significance beyond just a name for the interface. For instance, say I want to call my interfaces "internet" and "LAN". Should I substitute my terms for the terms "inside" and "outside"?

In http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/configuration/guide/nat_control.html#wp1085822 it says "NAT control requires that packets traversing from an inside interface to an outside interface match a NAT rule". Now, in my case would this be true for "NAT control requires that packets traversing from an LAN interface to an internet interface match a NAT rule"? I'm a noob with ASA and nat-control has me really confused not to mention the syntax for configuring the various forms of NAT.
