BGP Weight Attribute

hello Friends,

As we all know that Weight Attribute is an Cisco Specific however can you please clarify me that Weight is of which type of attribute.

Is this belongs to Well-known Manadatory/Discretionary or Optional Transitive/Non Trasitive??????

Since Weight is local to a Router and is not advertised to any peer thus it does not fall in any of the categories

Hello Sourabh,

actually weight is not a BGP attribute.

As noted by Zeeshan it is never exported in BGP updates so it cannot be classified in any BGP attribute category.

Local-preference is the BGP attribute that is more similar to weight and it is propagated within an AS.

if weight would be propagated within an AS it would be a duplicate of Local-Pref.
