Hi,

Can the Ciscoworks be used as a ping plotter so we can monitor the intermittent connections to client resources?

Thanks.

You could use IPM to set up an ICMP Echo operation on one of your RTTMON-capable Cisco devices, and generate SNMP trap or email off that.

It depends on what kind of granularity you want. Both DFM and HUM can do availability polling. However, DFM defaults to four minute polling, and HUM defaults to five minute polling. HUM is probably going to be more of what you want as it can provide the availability report graphs.

Thanks for the recommendations. Of the three possible ways, which method could generate an alarm or notification if ever a time out on the connection occurs?

DFM is the application that does this (though HUM could do it as well). You can configure DFM to send email, trap, or syslog notifications when a number of fault conditions occur (including unresponsiveness).

In the case of IPM for IP SLA, there's an "Action Event Type" dropdown menu option (second screenshot in that document). One of the options is SNMP Trap. Further down on the same screen, you can find the "Timeout Settings" option.
