Need help on CatOS 7.6 on C6000-X6K-S2U-MSFC2

Hi,

Just aquired a 6509 which has a S2E (Sup 2) on slot 1 and a X6148-GE-TX on mod 3.

It's running catOS 7.6

I managed to reset the password and able to login on the console via the console port.

I want to change the IOS to be CiscoIOS instead of catOS.

I dont need a backup of the config, just need to switch the OS.

Mind you, I have no experience what so ever on CatOS. So my question is how do I assign an IP address to this switch so I can access it via one of the 48 port blade in order to tftp the CiscoIOS in it?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Nelson,

Here is a document describing how to convert from CatOs to IOS.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015bfa6.shtml#step

Ok, now that I have this info, I need to know how to assign an IP in CATOS to one of the port on the 48port blade so I can TFTP a load to it.

Nevermind... I got in...

My next question is, when I do a "dir bootflash:" i get the bellow:

cup-cs-01> (enable) dir bootflash:

-#- -length- -----date/time------ name

1 7686852 Sep 26 2003 13:56:27 cat6000-sup2k9.7-6-1.bin

3 76520 Sep 17 2004 07:33:32 slot0

21594212 bytes available (10387356 bytes used)

Does this say I only have 32Mb of flash storage?

The load I would like to put on is 12.2.18-SXF13 yet the download site states Minimum Memory: DRAM:256 MB Flash:64 MB

Am I looking at the correct place for my storage?

this is the load I would like to put on:

IP SERVICES SSH LAN ONLY

s222-ipservicesk9-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin

I decided to put on a 12.1 load as it only requires 32Mb flash and thta's what I got.

I download c6sup22-jk2sv-mz.121-27b.E4.bin and deleted the old cat6000 file that was on the boot flash, then squeezed, then uploaded the IOS. Everything looked good. I did the set boot config-register 0x0

Then sync then reset the box.

Came back in RMON.

I then proceded to blank the CONFIG_FILE=

as requested in the docs provided above, then set the BOOT= to bootflash:c6sup22-jk2sv-mz.121-27b.E4.bin

Then sync then reset

Switch boots up, decompress image, boot image, decompress image, then crashes with :

*** System received a Software forced crash ***

signal= 0x17, code= 0x42a80000, context= 0x42aae7d4

PC = 0x401236c4, Cause = 0x1820, Status Reg = 0x34018002

Anyone have an idea as to what this could be?

When I force the continu of loading the image, from the ROMMON prompt, I get this error:

cont

Hello Nelson,

in the procedure that has been provided there are some steps to be done on MSFC.

Have you performed those steps?

see step 6 access the root processor

you need to place appropriate boot loader there (it will help to load the native IOS portion on the MSFC)

the procedure is quite long

Hope to help

Giuseppe

When I tried to switch console this is what happened:

Does anyone know how to format the flash from ROMmon?

Something is corrupted and the switch cycles during bootup... just keeps rebooting and rebooting. The only thing I can access is ROMmon...

Thanks

Hello Nelson,

if you have missed the steps related to MSFC you are now in trouble because the system is not able to load the code part that has to be run on the MSFC.

try to see if you can revert back to catos and then follow carefully the procedure.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Guys, I really need your help on this. Been going through several docs on how to convert from CatOS to IOS with nothing but issues. I reloaded the catos image on disk0: and am able to boot the switch with it. See bellow:

How can I recover this msfc2 and run ios on it...?

After the above, I read to change the confreg to 0x42 in order not to boot the load of the MSFC2 if it's missing... The bellow is what I get:

You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect
