CUPC causing CPU spikes on client

Client task manager is showing CUPC spiking at 30-40% every other minute.

Client is a 4450B-2.3 ghz Dell Optiplex 740 mini tower 2gig ram and 160 gig hard drive AMD processor

OS is XP SP2 and CUPC is 7.02.

The spikes occur all day. no matter if client is being used or not. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

I have seen this sporadically across many CUPC versions. I have opened TAC cases on it but have never been able to pin it down to a defect. If you look at the individual CPU cores, it typically pegs a single core (apparently not multi-threaded).

The odd thing I have noticed is it eventually seems to stop doing this. Typically a week or two after initial install on a workstation that experiences this, the behavior seems to evaporate.
