Windows file sharing aborted through WAN link

Dear all,

I encounter a really bizarre issue for our file sharing services passing through WAN. Copying process is always aborted within 5% progression.

We use E1 link with 2 Mbps. Sometimes, the bandwidth is saturated by sometimes not. But the problem persists for both case.

Does someone has encountered this kind of issue before ? Any help will be appreciated.

It might be cause by CIFS "seeing" a certain amount of errors, such as lost or timed out packets, during the transfer and then aborting the transfer. What does your drop and latency stats look like for the E1 link especially when link is saturated? What version or versions of Windows are you using? What kind of queuing is configured for the E1 (e.g. FIFO or WFQ)?

I attach both "Show interfaces" and "Show Controler E1".

It appears that there is some errors on WAN and LAN interfaces.

WAN Interface :

4120 input errors, 4120 CRC, 884 frame, 477 overrun, 0 ignored, 2427 abort

LAN Interface :

227 unknown protocol drops

173942 unknown protocol drops

What's the other side of the WAN link stats look like?

Hi Joseph,

Sorry for the late reply but we passed a nightmare with this problem.

We had CRC errors on both end of the 2 routers. The link provider delivered a new link, which we tested with no error.

We installed two new routers with two new E1 card (VWIC2-2MFT-G703).

When we run traffic using PCs directly cross-connected to both routers, we do not get any CRC error on WIC.

But when we connect to the LAN core switch (WS-C3750G-48TS), errors are occuring again.

We are suprised to see what should be a relationship between the LAN interface of the router (connected to switch) and the E1 WIC card having CRC error. :-(
