Hello

I heard that some providers police a circuit to 97% of desired IP bandwidth when doing average shaping. According to them the extra 3% is used during congestion (Busting) for routing protocols or keep alived.

Has anyone heard of anything similar and would be able to provide me with more details or any reference for that?

Thank you

Your ISP/Telco/provider.Should be able to advice you on all your entitlement for a curcuit(cc) connections. It all depends on how much traffic you paid for.

You have to bear in mind they will have to do intrusive and non-intrusive tests whenever a cc is causing problems e.g CRCs errors/and frame drops. In this case this means intruding to the cct connections they provided you.

lets face it 97% should be cool for your network.the 3% us used for moniroting purposes just in case a very sensetive CCT goes down they will inform you straight away(something u need especialy if you dont have a 24 hr SNMP monitoiing platform in place)..
