PLATFORM_UCAST-6-PREFIX

Hi,

We have a WS-C3560-48TS that is showing the message:

%PLATFORM_UCAST-6-PREFIX: One or more, more specific pre

fixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix

Looking at the internet, I found:

Error Message PLATFORM_UCAST-6-PREFIX: One or more, more specific prefixes could not

be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix

Explanation A more specific prefix could not be programmed into Ternary Content Addressable Memory (TCAM) and is covered by a less specific prefix. This could be a temporary condition. The output of the show platform ip unicast failed route privileged EXEC command lists the failed prefixes.

Recommended Action No action is required.

So, no action is required, but we don't want to have that message, so I found that we have to change the SDM template that decides how the TCAM resources are used.

But I don't know if this is really the way we will stop receiving this message.

About configuring the SDM, I found the link to achieve this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_40_se/configuration/guide/swsdm.html

But, which one should I configure? I was guessing on using:

Switch(config)# sdm prefer routing

Switch(config)# end

Switch# reload

I'm adding the errors messages and the show platform ip unicast failed route.

Thank u.

Hello Rafael,

your understanding is correct including the need to reload for the SDM change to take effect.

the change of SDM template will give you more space for IPv4 routes.

Consider also IP route aggregation on upstream devices: this device may need a small number of aggregated routes.

use sh ip route summary to see how many routes are involved

you can get up to 11,000 routes with routing SDM

Hope to help
