We have a device in the field that is controlled via a 9 pin serial interface (RS232).
When we are on site we plug an old laptop into the RS-232 port on the device, fire up Hyperterminal, and make a connection 115000 baud, 8n1 COM 1 connection.
We would like to be able to do the same from back at our office. We already have a connection between our office router and the remote router and can ping it.
The plan is to use the AUX port of the remote router and plug it into our device's RS-232 port. Then back at the office establish a PPP connection using Hyperterminal, into the AUX port of our office router, out over the WAN and arrive at the remote router out the remote AUX port and into our device.
I am having a hard time finding documentation to do this. Sure its an expensive way to control an RS-232 device but since we already have the equipment we would like to try. Anyone have experience setting this up?
