C5RSM Reloading every 10 minutes

Unanswered Question

I know it's old stuff, but I have a C5500 with a Route Switch Module, IOS 12.0(7)T. This has been stable for 10 years. This morning, the RSM started to reload every 10 minutes with the following log entries:

Any ideas as to what to look for?

Hello Al,

what is slot9 in this system?

if it is not the RSM you can try to see what happens when you remove it.

if it is the RSM I'm afraid it may be gone.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like the problem is being caused by the VIP2 adapter on the RSM, which is connected to Slot 9 on the Route Switch Module.

Slot 0: C5IP controler

Slot 7: Route/Switch Processor

Slot 9: VIP2 controler

The VIP2 has an ATM Port Adapter which I am no longer using. We reseated the RSM, and it has run clean for a day, but I am going to completely remove the VIP2 before it starts acting up again, which I hope will fix the problem.

Thanks,

Al

Hello Al,

we had a similar issue on a C7513 and it was caused by a failed vip2-50 that we changed.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
