Is there a way to view the configuration file from a WLC? Notepad shows invalid characters.

I have this problem too.

If you're using a 4xxx, 5xxx, WiSm type of controller, then the file is XML. Not sure what type of invalid characters you would see - XMl is plain text.

The 2100 controllers output a plain text file (not XML).

I don't know about the other controller types.

If you select the encryption option when you download the config file, then you would definitely have a lot of weird characters showing up in notepad.

go to the cli in a terminal emmulation package and do a "show run-config" command. This will show you the entire config of the controller.

What I'm looking for is a long lost WEP key that's used on some old Symbol Wireless guns. The equipment for up/downloading files for them is long gone.

Both the Web interface and the CLI hide the key characters. The WLC has to know what they are. Is there no mechanism for getting it to display this value?

not really but you could use any of the hacker tools to decode wep. Airsnort, etc.
