I have two servers in a Unity Connection 7.1(3) Cluster.
Do I create seperate CallManager Voicemail Ports for each server like I did with Unity Voicemail 4.2 Secondary Servers?
It appears they share the same ports, as the Cluster guide doesn't indicate I need to create separate portsâ¦

if you have a cluster then you do not need to create separate VM ports for each server

Hi Jason,
Just to add a few notes to the good tips from Virender (+5 points here my friend)
There will only be one Group of ports distributed across the two UC7 boxes;

Configuring a Cisco Unity Connection Cluster
Configuring a Subsequent Node

Balancing the Load of Calls That the Cisco Unity Connection Servers Handle
Although it is possible to balance the load of calls that the Cisco Unity Connection servers handle in a Connection cluster, we recommend that most call traffic be directed to the subscriber server. This configuration follows the Cisco Unified Communications Manager cluster model of allowing call traffic only on subscriber servers.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager by Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP)
When integrating Connection with Cisco Unified CM by Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP), it is possible to balance the voice traffic that the Cisco Unity Connection server pair handles by using one of the following methods:
â¢(Recommended) In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration (on the Call Routing > Route/Hunt > Line Group page), use Top Down as the distribution algorithm for the line group that contains directory numbers of ports that will answer calls on both servers in the Connection cluster.
In Connection Administration, all the ports that share the same device name prefix will be in one port group. (If there are ports that share a different device name prefix, they must be in a separate port group.) Beginning with the answering port that has the lowest number in its display name, assign half the answering ports to the subscriber server so that the subscriber server will answer most incoming calls. Assign the remaining answering ports to the publisher server. Then beginning with the dial-out port that has the lowest number in its display name, assign half the dial-out ports to the primary server so that the primary server will handle MWIs and notification calls. Assign the remaining dial-out ports to the subscriber server.
â¢In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration (on the Call Routing > Route/Hunt > Line Group page), use Longest Idle Time as the distribution algorithm for the line group that contains directory numbers of ports that will answer calls on both servers in the Connection cluster.
In Connection Administration, all the ports will be in a single port group. The first half of the answering ports and dial-out ports will be assigned to the publisher server and the remaining ports will be assigned to the subscriber server in the Connection cluster.
Hope this helps!
Rob

This is real good piece of information,
I am learning more from you to give better answers :)

I just completed a similar config, and I was wondering if you folks could confirm that I have done things correctly. In my situation I want load balance between two servers in the cluster. To further complicate things our CUC servers are in two different âgeographic areasâ of our WAN. In the end I want some users on the network to use CUC1 as the primary with CUC2 as the secondary. The remaining users will use CUC2 as their primary and CUC1 as their secondary.
In CUCM I created two voicemail profiles - each with its own Voice Mail Pilot and Hunt Group. The HG1 has ports from CUC1 then CUC2 listed in a top down selection. HG2 has ports from CUC2 then CUC1.
The kicker here is I've created two Voice Mail Servers in CUCM. This way I can have the ports from CUC1 registered with CUCM1 and CUC2 registered with CUCM2. (The CUC and CUCM servers are both in the same âgeographic areaâ of the WAN.) The separate voicemail servers have also been segregated into separate Phone Systems and Port Groups in CUC.
Now for all the questions:
Should I have all ports registered with my primary CUCM server?
Should the voicemail ports have the IP address of the primary CUC server?
What's the advantage of having one port group/the disadvantage of having two port groups across the cluster?
All of this is running on CUCM 7.0 and CUC 7.1.2
