Hello,

What is the difference for discovering devices in LMS 3.1 by

Configuring LMS Server Using CiscoWorks Assistant.

AND

Common Services > Device and Credentials > Device Discovery > Discovery settings.

Which is preferable one???

As per common services Device discovery in LMS 3.1 can be done by CDP,BGP,ARP,HSRP,OSPF,i can also use only SNMP string by leaving the above protocols ???? suppose if i specify only snmp string and start discovery would i will be able to discover devices ???Correct me if am wrong.

And can anyone advice me regarding the devices are sometimes unreacheable though they are pingable by LMS and also they are success in SNMP walk (reacheable through SNMP),Can anybody guide me for the perfect troubleshooting for such senario.

Am Getting started with LMS i have heared these types of above problems through friends.

Both are identical. CWA is simply a front-end to the other URL. CWA acts as a browser in the backend going through all of the same links. If the server is already up and running, I always recommend people use the Common Services approach rather than CWA.

Yes, if you specify one community string for the *.*.*.* range, then all devices will be contacting by that one string. If they are reachable, then they will be discovered and added to DCR.

A sniffer trace is best to use in this case. This way you can see exactly what credentials LMS is using to discover the devices.
