QUESTION onf Extended ping

Hi all

may be a its simple question, but i gues it will help a lot for others

when i do ping to device in network it is not reachable but if i do wxtended ping with one of the ip its pingable

can some one tell me how does this work

the device from which i tring ti ping is a Core switch mutileple vlan itnefaces

What additional options do you specify when doing extended ping? It could be that the destination does not have a route back to the default source IP, but does to the IP address used in the extended ping.

I used extended ping and sources address is the one of the ip address of the switch(vlan interface IP) and destination ip

is ip of the detination server

Then the default source address for the ping must either not be allowed to get to the destination, or the destination does not have a route back to that address. You could use a sniffer to confirm where the traffic is being dropped.
