Cat 6500 recovery question

Hello,

A client of us is having problems with a Cat 6500 switch (a Cat 6500 Supervisor 720 Fabric MSFC3 PFC3A with a s72033-ipservicesk9-mz.122-18.SXF14 IOS). This switch fails to load the IOS image. I've read this document:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a008015bfa1.shtml#catos_ios

And I have some questions about it:

- The document talks about RP ROMmon and SP ROMmon, ¿is this only for an older model with MSCF1 or the MSCF3 has two ROMmon too?

- In the fourth point of the “Supervisor 720 Recovery Procedure”, it talks about RP Mode. ¿What is this mode?

- Will I be able to boot the IOS image from the external compact flash (disk0:)? In another doc I've read:

“SP bootflash/bootdisk is the location from where the system can load and boot a Cisco IOS Software image.(…). The RP bootflash can also be used as a storage location for Cisco IOS Software images, although the system cannot directly load an image from that location.”

Best regards and thanks in advance,

Hello friend,

In Supervisor Engine 720, after the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2 SX there are no seperate image files such as a bootloader image and the main IOS image. The Supervisor Engine and the MSFC both run a single bundled Cisco IOS image. You can boot MSFC3 images from any of these:

- bootflash
- sup−disk0 (disk0)
- sup−disk1 (disk1)

- sup−bootflash

You can find detailed answer to your questions and step by step guide for upgrade and recovery processes from these links below:

Wish you success!
