are the default administrative distance changeable?

hello dear experts,

can we change the default administrative distance numbers of the routing protocols?

You use the "distance" command. Attached is a link to the command reference for routing protocols - under each routing protocol you will find a "distance" option -

Yes you can but it is important to make sure all routers agree on the new AD

that you are configuring.

One use of doing this is when you migrate from one routing protocol to another. The new routing protocol can have an AD set that is higher than the existing one so that the existing one is still used for routing. When the new routing protocol has received all the routes you can then disable the old one and revert the AD back to it's standard.

It can also be used to prefer one route over another although to it's not a good sign if you find you are having to do this a lot within your network.
