The main problem I am facing here now is that the devices (routers & switches ) connected to the CONSOLE SWITCH 2950 are sometimes giving me a LINE PROTOCOL DOWN error when I type SHOW INTERFACE. Why is that? How do I get round this one? I assumed it was a problem of not setting up the correct ip address scheme; ie giving another device the same ip address accidentally but then I changed the devices to their own ip address but get the same problem of LINE PROTOCOL DOWN. I dont think its NO SHUTDOWN in ip address configuration. I dont think I need clocking on ethernet connections.

So then could it be the type of ethernet I had to choose eg// FULL DUPLEX 10 BASEX during INTIAL ROUTER/SWITCH CONFIGURATION? Which I think I did.....

You just try to hardcode the speed/duplex under the interface and check the physical connectivity.

Speed 100

Duplex full

Plz let me know if it works and solve your issue and rate this.
