Can't upgrade CUCM and CUC 7.0 to 7.1 on VMware

Roman Rodichev

Hello,

got CUCM 7.0(2) and CUC 7.0(2) running on two VMs. I can't upgrade either of them to any 7.1 version. I get the same error message everytime:

Error encountered: errors.upgrade.system

Has anyone run into this? Has anyone successfully upgraded 7.0 to 7.1 on VMware? My virtual disk is 250GB (thin), 2GB of RAM, 2 vCPUs.

Here's the last lines in the log. I marked the line, that I believe is the cause.

Im having a similar issue as we speak, this is my second attempt at upgrading from 7.0 to 7.1(3a). Each time it tells me that its "Installing" on both the OS Admin and CLI using, 'utils system upgrade status'  But I think we can take a four hour Installing process as a failure.. Any clues would be much appreciated.

As you can see, thats almost 3 hours. Oh yes, this Linux version is much more stable....UHUM..

Hi Craig,

You have to be careful when going from 7.0 to 7.1 and it only seems to work in a certain way.  I just upgraded a VM Fusion 7.0 to 7.1(3a) in the following way:

Base in on 7.0(1) or something, sorry can't remember for sure.

Upgraded to 'UCSInstall_UCOS_7.0.2.20000-5.sgn.iso'

Then too

UCSInstall_UCOS_7.1.3.20000-2.sgn.iso

All good after that, Craig you know my IM so ping me on that later this evening...or I will try and drop you a call later today to explain more.

Best regards,

Mackers

Hey Mackers,

    Those are the exact versions im attempting;

Current Version  7.0.2.20000-5
Upgrade Version  7.1.3.20000-2

One thing I didnt try was disabling the I/O throttling. Attempting this now. I believe your working with VMWare on Mac, I wonder if this is the key? We have a VMWare specialist attempting to troubleshoot any failings on this side. In the meantime, CUMA is coming along beautifully.

Regards,

Craig.

Hi Craig,

For sure turn off the throttling and as ti is Vmware it just seems to take along time to complete in 7.X, I have done the samething on a Windows box and that worked fine.  I tried your number, but I must have it down wrong, so ping me vai mail through my website and I will drop you a line:

www.mackersoft.com   Contat Us ---> e-mail

Once we get it sorted we can report back here with the solution.

Best regards,

Mackers

I tried it again. Installed a fresh CUCM install of Bootable_UCSInstall_UCOS_7.0.1.11000-2.sgn.iso on an ESXi VM with 250GB thin virtual drive. I then try to upgrade to UCSInstall_UCOS_7.0.2.20000-5.sgn.iso and it fails after some time. So now I can't even upgrade to 7.0.2. I tried both with mounting the ISO and via SFTP. I get this error:

Craig,

You just saved me hours and hours of my frustration with this upgrade. Since it was in lab I didn't configure NTP server after I saw your post I checked the logs for ntp error , it was there so I configured NTP and did the upgrade it worked like a charm.. Thank you so much.
