Cisco 7206 NPE-G2 and modules GLC-BX-D, GLC-BX-U

Could you please tell me, will this modules work with 7206 NPE-G2 or not? Because in this document

I don't see this modules in capability list for NPE-G2, although I know what, for examle, GLC-LH-SM perfectly works with NPE-G2 but don't present in this list. Could you clear up situation?

Hello Roman,

according to NPE-G2 datasheet only conventional SFP are mentioned

this does not mean that these special GLCs are not supported

even here they are not mentioned.

So I'm afraid they are not supported on C7200 NPE-G2.

Only SX, LX/LH & ZX are supported but sold separately.

I don't know why you are so sure what it will not work? I have also seen what where is no mention to this modules in capability matrix, but just now I've inserted two AlliedTelesyn SM SFP into NPE-G2 connect it to each other and they work!

As far as I understand SFP has absolutely standart electrical interface. Why are there such misinformation in oficial cisco documentation?

Hi Roman,

When inserting non-Cisco SFPs into Cisco appliance, there are instances where the ports will go into error-disable. This is because Cisco-branded SFP (although never made by Cisco) has an algorithm inserted into the EIPROM. The appliance will always interrogate the EIPROM and see if the algorithm matches. If not, then it's disabled. Cisco TAC tends NOT to support any issues if they found out you have non-Cisco branded parts.
