Wireless Priority

Hello.

A location we look after has a Cisco AIR-WLC4402-25-K9 with 14 AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 APs.

We have setup a general user vlan that works just fine.

However, the location have their own ADSL connection as well.

They use it quite often.

Recently users have been trying to connect to the wireless ADSL SSID to use that connection rather than the Cisco user network.

When the users attempt to connect it fails, with the user network re-connecting everytime.

It almost seems that it has a higher priority.

The location is on a group policy with no admin rights, so they cannot change any settings themselves, plus this is a pain.

It should just connect to the other SSID no problems.

The location says that nothing has changed.

What could be the problem?

Check VLANs allowed, routing.

Thanks for the resposne.

Vlans and routing is not the issue. The Cisco wireless works fine, no problems.

It's trying to connect to the External ADSL connection that is the problem.

A user double clicks onto the external SSID and it should connect to that and disconnect from the Cisco user wireless.

However, it doesn't allow the Exteranl SSID, it just connects back up tot eh Cisco user one.

It's as if the Cisco wireless is saying that you cannot connect to any other wireless network.

From the sounds of it you have an SSID that you cant connect to. Check the WLAN settings make sure they are correct. Check the security settings under the WLAN. Also check your client. Try a few different clients and see if any of them connect. Also try broadcasting your ssid and see if this helps.

George's right. I might add that to make the troubleshooting easier, remove all security/encryption and verify if you can connect to the SSID or not before you add all the "goodies" on top.

Thanks everyone for your responses so far.

I apologise for not mentioning that both wireless networks work fine.

If you login locally to any user laptop, not on the domain, you can connect to the External wireless SSID with no problems.

As soon as the user is connecting to the Cisco user network ond authenticating through AD, that is when trying to switch to the External wireless from the Cisco wireless user network fails.

When connected to the Cisco through AD there is a group policy with PKI certicficate already setup.

The setup is used for a number of other locations on Cisco wireless which works fine.

Once using this group policy it is impossible to disconnect from the Cisco user network and use the External wireless, it just doesn't connect.

The Cisco wireless always reconnects.
