Switch replacement

I had a competitors s

witch fail monday and am doing research on a replacement.

Looking at the 2960 series and trying to decide between the

2960 24 TTL or the 2960 T

CL.

Not sure what the actual differece is between:

2 Dual purpose gigabit uplinks and 2 10/100/1000 uplings.

Is there actually a difference?

Thank you for the very quick reply. That does answer my question.

If using the TCL Links, I assume you could connect switches together. Would this make any difference in connectivity speed? What type Cable would be used?

You can connect switches together using either the TTL or the TCL.

With the TTL you would use a copper RJ45 cable.

With the TTL you could use either a copper RJ45 or a multimode fibre.

Whichever you use on whichever switch you can still get the same connectivity speed. Bear in mind though that with the fibre it will run at 1Gbps only as far as i know whereas with the copper you can run it at 10/100 or 1Gbps. But then as these are uplink ports you will probably want 1Gbps anyway.

Yes there is a difference.

The fixed ethernet ports are RJ45 copper connections only.

The dual purpose uplinks are a choice of either RJ45 copper or SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) which is a fibre termination.

So basically you have a bit more flexibility in what you use to uplink these switches to other switches with the TCL.
