I'm in the process of replacing 30-40 phones. The old phones are 7960s and the customer has purchased 40 524s. I need to do a replacement and looking for the easiest and quickest way to do this with out (hopefully) loosing everyones voicemail, etc.

Here are the steps for replacing a 7960G phone with a 524G phone:
You will not lose any voicemail configuration if you make the changes following the steps above. However, be sure that you only have 4 buttons configured because the 524G phone only has 4 buttons whereas the 7960G has 6 buttons. The 524G phones do not support octo line, whereas the 7960 supports octo line. Be sure that your ephone-dns are dual-line instead of octo-line before performing the switch to 524G phones.
524G phone load configuration example:
UC520#conf t
UC520(config)#tftp-server flash:/phones/521_524/cp524g-8-1-17.bin alias cp524g-8-1-17.bin
UC520(config)#telephony-service
UC520(config-telephony)#load 521G-524G cp524g-8-1-17
Phone reconfiguration example:
UC520#conf t
UC520(config)#ephone 5
UC520(config-ephone)#reset
UC520(config-ephone)#mac-address 0024.5555.0001
UC520(config-ephone)#type 524G
UC520(config-ephone)#telephony-service
UC520(config-telephony)#create cnf-files
Saving updated configuration:
UC520#wr mem

the CLI method is best i the situation I was in, changing out one at a time. BUT if I could have done them all at once AND my config was in band I would have perferred the CCA method. Mostly because that's what our FEs are trained in, not so much the CLI

It takes awhile, but you can do this in CCA. Don't plug in the new phones. Unplug the old phones. Go into CCA and change the mac addresses and phone types to be the new phones. Plug in the new phones, and that should fix it.
