I want to take automatic configuration backup of a cisco 2950 switch having IOS image-c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin to a remote tftp server.

please suggest what are the commands to use on the switch.

If this IOS version is not supported, then which one should be upgraded.

There is no automation on the 2950 switch under any IOS level.

You will need a NMS tool to perform the running-configuration transfer to the TFTP server.

You can instruct the NMS tool to execute the command highlighted in the documentation:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2950/software/release/12.1_22_ea11x/configuration/guide/swiosfs.html#wp1006156

With newer hardware and IOS releases, you can automate internal task in IOS by using EEM.

Edison.

There's also a sweet tool out there called RANCID that will download your config at an interval you specify, run a diff comparing it to the config downloaded previously and keep it in a CVS tree.  It also e-mails you the changes at the interval you specify.  I couldn't live without it.  It's a package in OpenBSD and I'm pretty sure it's in the ports tree of FreeBSD as well.

Hi,

Does RANCID Supports 6500 IOS switch backup

From the manpages it looks like it will.  Give it a shot.
