diff between L3 Switch and Router

hello friends,

i am trying to find out the answer for difference between L3 switch and Router and their functions as compared to each other but unable to get it..

1) can you please tell me that what is the exact difference between L3 Switch and Router?

2) when we can use L3 switch instead of Routers and vice-a-versa?

Just recently answered the same question -

In addition generally routers are used to connect to the WAN whereas L3 switches tend to be in the LAN.
