Solved: WIC compatiblity

I have found that the Fractional T1 CSU/DSU modules will work in 1600, 1700, 2600, 2700, and 3700. Can I use the same WIC from these in a 2524?

Yeah, I would not recommend trying that.

You can pick up a (authentic) WIC1DSU-T1 relatively inexpensively. I've seen them as cheap as $30 at some shops. Do *not* pick up the -v2. Those are only for use in the ISRs, and no the 1600/1700 series.

Have you tried the password recovery procedures? You need a downtime, but it may not be a big deal if you can recover the pw: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/2500/2524/software/user/guide/boamnt.html#wp774

Can you specify which card you're talking about here? A part number would be helpful.

The card you are asking about (I assume) is the WIC1DSU-T1. The 2524 uses the older SM25-T1 fractional T1 CSU/DSU cards (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/2500/2524/software/user/guide/boaprep.html#wp1616), and does not support the WIC1DSU-T1. I think that is the answer that I am looking for. Situation is that I have a 2524 in production that I cannot login to. We have a 1602 that is sitting around that could be used as a hot spare, but it needs a T1 card. We were thinking about taking the card out of the 2524, but needed to see if it would work. Apparently not.

I was planning on switching it out with the 1600 temporarily to rommon the 2500 and reset the password. The 1600 was going to be for a spare incase something went haywire with 2500 while performing password reset. Thank you for the confirmation on that.
