WLC vs WCS

Hi, do you need WCS for reports? or does the controller have any kind or reporting?

So if I only need 1 controller I need a WCS or not?

I need historically reports about user connections (when and where has been connected each client)

Where can I find information about reporting capacity of controllers?

Thanks

You can get watever information is in the monitor tab of the WLC.

There is a way to track real time clients connected, however from the moment you want to have historical data, WCS is the tool that will provide you powerful reporting as it stores the data realtime.

You can get a WCS with a free eval from : www.cisco.com/go/wcs, there click on download and get the latest 6.0 release.

You can get eval license from: www.cisco.com/go/license

And what information do you have in the monitor tab of the WLC?

Thanks

If you only need very basic information, the WLC will announce Client Join / Leave information through SNMP traps, so you may be able to satisfy your needs just by importing the WLC MIBS into a generic SNMP Receiver.  If you need more thorough and detailed information, WCS or some other tool like AirWave is the way to go.

Richard
