Guys,

One of my routers is having strange issue, it reboots itself after the clock updates through NTP source. Below is the log

*Dec 15 15:15:14.151 AEST: %SYS-6-CLOCKUPDATE: System clock has been updated fro

There are about 30 other routers in our network feeding on same NTP with similar clock configuration and doesnt have any issue but this one does, any assistance would be appreciated.

Can you provide more information?

1.  IOS version;
2.  Hardware;
3.  Relevant information;
4.  Router configuration

Does the router have a crashinfo file/subdirectory?

Hey mate,

Router does not have crashfile subdirectory...version is in the log above....

Cisco 2821 (revision 53.51) with 249856K/12288K bytes of memory.
2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
2 Serial interfaces
2 Channelized E1/PRI ports
1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

anyways i have monitored the router overnight and havent had any issues as of yet...

It's hard to determine what the cause is if we don't see the crashinfo file or see the traceback errors.

We are having the same issue with a Cisco 2821 with the following IOS and Hardware Configuration:

Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ENTBASEK9-M), Version 12.4(12a), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3) Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport Copyright (c) 1986-2007 by Cisco Systems, Inc. Compiled Thu 22-Feb-07 17:13 by prod_rel_team  ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.4(13r)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)  dorsey uptime is 15 minutes System returned to ROM by power-on System restarted at 06:50:41 EDT Tue May 11 2010 System image file is "flash:c2800nm-entbasek9-mz.124-12a.bin"  Cisco 2821 (revision 53.51) with 251904K/10240K bytes of memory. 2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity enabled. 239K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory. 62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

This router is getting login information from an ACS and NTP from 2 sources.

When reviewing the log. the time stamp is incorrect even though the time on the router is correct.

Any comments on a cause and solution would be appreciated.

dorsey uptime is 15 minutes

System returned to ROM by power-on

System restarted at 06:50:41 EDT Tue May 11 2010

System image file is "flash:c2800nm-entbasek9-mz.124-12a.bin"

I don't see anything suspicious here.

When reviewing the log. the time stamp is incorrect even though the time on the router is correct.

After a reboot, the appliance will always go to default of "*Mar  1" until the appliance syncs with the NTP source.

Hi I am having the same issue... the core router reboot itself.

Sorry Zong, your information posted is not enough.  Do you have a crashinfo file(s)?  If you do, attach the latest 3 files.

Hi Leo,

I only have the show tech.

Anything i info from tech that can help?

Thanks.

Some Cisco devices also support an on-board calendar (I think this includes the 2800 series).

If you keep the device's clock sync'ed with NTP, you can keep the calendar sync'ed too using ntp update-calendar.

If such devices with a calendar are restarted, the log will have pretty accurate timestamps until NTP syncs up again.

Hi Zong,

Your crash is not related to the one discussed in this thread. Your crash is due to parity error and DDTS which force switch to relaod on parity error occurrence,

DDTS is:

Csa75881 WS-X4515 crashed at onNonFatalParityInterrupt__12K2NetflowMan

Symptom:

Customer supervisor crashes when it sees any NFL parity errors (Fatal or Non-

fatal)

Workaround:

It has been fixed by distinguishing between Fatal and Non-Fatal parity errors.

The new behavior is:

[Non Fatal error]

-The system does not reset for Non-fatal error unless it encounters a number

of non-fatal error that is higher than what we expect to see.

-The system will display following log message every time it sees a non-fatal

error.

"Non fatal NFL Error [NFL] [FDT1] [FDT2] [FLD]"

-But if the system a higher number of non-fatal error than the number we

expect to encounter, then system will reset itself.

[Fatal error]

-The system will reset itself right after displaying following log, if the

system encounters even a single fatal error.

"Fatal NFL Error [NFL] [FDT1] [FDT2] [FLD]"

Recomendation is to upgrade to 12.2(25)EWA2.

AS for a crash for which thread was opened - it  seems to be not related to NTP synch - somthing else might have happened triggering it. It seems that NTP was trying to synch after reload as the logs you have are the ones during bootup. All logs before reload should have been cleared. I guess in the "show version" you have smth like "System returned to ROM by power-on".

That would mean that either someone on site power cycle it accidently or on purpose, there was a power outage for that server room or problem just with single power outlet - or switch has a power controller issue. I would recomend to monitor it.
